We play netball on Thursdays. The netball coach is Trina, she encourages us to do our best. We play games where we have to knock cones down and then put them back up. She taught us how to chest pass, catch and how to shoot a goal. It is a lot of fun.

Herb Foley Art.
We are learning about Herb Foley, a New Zealand artist. He used to live in Christchurch but after the Earthquakes he moved north to Keri Keri. He is well known for his paintings of the NZ Bush. He draws layers, big trees and plants at the front and smaller ones going back. He sometimes hides NZ icons or bugs in his pictures.
We learnt to size and layers and light shining from one side of the picture.
I really enjoyed doing our artwork. Next term we are going to use these skills to do more art.

Rocket balloons.
Yesterday for science, we did rocket balloons.
To make it you need:
- a long piece of string.
- a balloon
- two pieces of tape
- a straw
and a stop watch if you want to time itl.
First you lay out the string. Next tie the string to two chairs or walls so that it is tight.
Then you blow up the balloon, Then get the tape and some scissors to cut the tape. Then tape the balloon on to on end of the string. Let go of the balloon and it will shoot across the room on the string.
How does it work?
When you let go the air is forced out the back and pushes the balloon forwards.

Magic Milk!
Last week we made magic milk.
You put a cup of milk in a flat dinner plate, a few drops of different food colouring. Then dipped a cotton bud into dishwashing liquid and put it in the middle of the milk. All the colours start moving and swirling up and out from the cotton bud making an amazing marble rainbow.
You should try this at home! Its lots of fun.

The Enormous Wonderful Che!que
Room 5 had fun giving a huge cheque to the Church Committee members, Angela Smith and Mrs Adams at assembly. We had worked hard to raise the money and were proud of ourselves. It felt good doing something for our community. They were very thankful and said they will use it to help fix the church.
The big cheque$369.00.

Run Jump Throw!
Run, jump, throw is the best because you learn heaps of athletics skills like throwing, jumping over hurdles and high jumps and relays. Toni trains us and show us what to do. We play lots of games and even learnt how to start a running race. Toni said "Take your marks! Get Set! Go!"

Touch Rugby
We started touch rugby at the beginning of the term. Paul and Sarah were coaching us. We did it on the field, and they taught us to pass and catch a ball, pick a ball up and run and touch.
We played lots of great games to practise.

Sound Sandwiches are cool!
Our classroom has made sound sandwiches. We made them last Tuesday.
We learnt that you need vibration or movement to make sound. When we blow on the sound sandwich the rubber band in the middle moves and vibrates to make the sound.

Farewell Zepharr and Zita.
This term two people from Room 5 left the school.
Zita left first, she went to Queenstown because her family brought a flower shop down there.
She loved art and was really good at it. She has written us a letter and we are all writing back to her.
She would of loved the new library so we will send her a picture of it.
Our friend Zepharr left to live in Australia. I felt terrible! I wish he could come back to Maungatapere. Gage and I miss him a lot. His favourite sport was touch rugby and he was quite good at it. We had fun playing touch with him. Farewell buddy, watch out for spiders and snakes.

The Library opening.
On Thursday the 4th of September we had our library opening at school. The Deputy Mayor, people from the Ministry of Education and Gay Reed (the artist) came along. The Maori elders walked through the library and blessed it for us. Jessie Taylor did her mihi, The Kapa Haka group did their performances, it was really amazing. We are very proud of our new library. We painted the leaves for the tree and their are new bean bags and furniture. The painting of Maungatapere is incredible. It has everything in it from our community. We love going into the library and hanging out.

We made $369.00 and had a lot of fun. Every child in the school got something and loved it. thanks to all the mums that came and helped us.
