On Monday Room 5 was really lucky! We had a Tri Kids afternoon.
This is training for our triathlon next week.
When we went on the field there was a black truck attached to a trailer that said Tri Kids. There was three pictures on the trailer. One was running, one was swimming and then cycling. It looked so exciting.
Behind the truck we saw about 30 shinny sparkling bikes. There were red ones, some with trainer wheels and some smaller lower ones without trainer's. There were large, tall blue bikes that were for the seniors. Emma was nervous but was determined to have a go. Isak, Keelan and Weylan felt excited and couldn't wait for a turn.
We all had to sit down and meet Danny and Scotty. They talked to us about the rules and how to do a triathlon. We learnt that the important things to do are:
1) Make your helmet click, when you put it on.
2) Always walk and push your bike in the transition area.
3) Go with the flow and be careful.
The first thing we had to do was run around the blue flags. McKenzie zoomed pasted the flags like a fast cheetah. We were huffing and puffing. Our legs got wobbly and tired. Our hearts were racing very fast.
Next we had to put on our helmets.
Make it Click!
We had to tighten our straps under the chin and on the back. It felt good when we put it on. It was safe to ride our bikes now.
We had to wait for a turn to get on the bikes. We stood straight and tall like soldiers. Sebastien was first.
When we rode the bikes, it was bumpy and we had to pump our legs hard to go fast.
We had to go round the cones and brake at the end. Tanith's bike was too big and wobbly and she fell over. It was better the next day.
It was fun! When we got back to the classroom we were proud of ourselves.
We hope everybody will come and watch us on Monday.
By all the kids in Room 5.
