Mangakahia Rugby Prize Giving.

We are in the Mangakahia Blue team went to the prize giving at Mangakahia Sports Complex at 5.00 pm on Thursday 29th August 2013.

We all lined up in our teams. Our team got given our prizes near the beginning of the night.
We all got a certificate but some people got special prizes. Connor got a Player of the Year for our team. He was lucky and got a trophy, a rugby ball, a cuddly cow and a fizzy drink. Keelan his brother got Most Improved player. That family must be happy. We are proud of them.

Logan's new calves.

Today Logan brought some pictures about his new calves for news. We put them up on the whiteboard and he told us all about them. 

We got 2 calves, one called Sunny Bill and one called Princess. Logan got Sunny Bill and Arlyia got Princess. Logan now has 2 calves as he already had Panda. They are only a few weeks old.

 

He showed us photographs on a slide show  however unfortunately we have had problems uploading it so can't share it. I suspect that it is too big.

Last term, Room 5 had a lesson about keeping safe on the bus.

Constable Debbie came to our class and talked about :

• Getting onto the bus safely - stand clear when it stops - walk up the stairs quickly - find a seat
• Being safe while the bus is moving - sit facing the front - keep the isles clear - keep your bags and body in your seat area - no moving around the bus. Also remember its not safe to eat on the bus or drink because it makes a mess and someone might slip over, if they tread on it.
• Getting off the bus - wait until the bus stops before you get out of your seat.- walk quickly watch where you are going.  - move back from the bus and wait  in a safe place  until it drive off.

Ms Hodgson and Constable Debbie were very pleased with how the children listened carefully and answered the questions. They were amazingly good!!!

Patterns are fun!

Room 5 have been learning about patterns over the last 2 weeks.
We made this video about patterns.

Zeebong visits Maungatapere School

 Zeebong the storyteller came to Maungatapere School and told us a story that his grandfather told him. He had a magnificent vest on that had golden patterns on it. His voice was unusual and deep. He had a story teller's accent.

He got  teachers and children to play characters in his story.

Jack was the King. Mrs Adams was the queen.

Blake was the prince, Trey was the baby boy.

Ms Hodgson was Granhag the smelly old witch. She is a bad witch.

The story was about a royal family who lived in the castle. The witch wanted the first baby born to the Queen. She tricked the family into promising that they would give them the baby. But they killed killed her in the end. It was a great story we enjoyed.

 

We love his stories and can't wait for him to come again next year.

Today Room 5 learnt how to use Pic Collage on our new class iPad.

Wonderful word pictures - Tagxedo

We chose words that were meaningful to us and made a tagxedo picture with them. Then we wrote a story about ourselves using the words.

Last week we had fun making marshmallow hedgehogs. We had read a book and decided to experience it for ourselves.
